Casale is deeply committed to the energy transition, focusing on the development of sustainable technologies for the production of basic chemicals. Its patented technology, HyPURE-N, represents an advanced solution for large-scale production of ammonia from natural gas resources, significantly reducing environmental impact.

The HyPURE-N process uses Casale’s proprietary oxygen-blown Auto Thermal Reforming (ATR), one of the world’s most proven high-pressure and high-capacity ATR, a choice that ensures large production rates with lower emissions and reduced capital expenditure. With over 15 ATR project references globally in ammonia and methanol plants—spanning installations, ongoing construction, and design phases—Casale’s extensive experience underscores the reliability and efficiency of its ATR technology, out of which 9 are already in operation. Notably, the largest of these units achieves a production rate of 630 kNm³/h of H, demonstrating the robust capacity, advanced capabilities, and performance of Casale’s solutions.

This process incorporates an innovative pre-combustion CO2 capture design that uses part of the carbon-free syngas produced and other virtually carbon-free off-gases as internal fuel. This not only reduces natural gas consumption but also substantially lowers carbon emissions. All generated CO2 is captured and allocated to sequestration or other uses, aligning with global carbon reduction goals.

A significant project employing the HyPURE-N scheme is currently progressing through the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) phase for an undisclosed customer's blue ammonia plant. This development underscores the practical application of our technology, demonstrating Casale's commitment to providing tangible, cutting-edge solutions that directly support the energy transition.

The flexibility of the HyPURE-N process allows customization to specific production rates, carbon capture requirements, and energy integration needs. This adaptability offers various options, from integrating green energy to further reduce the carbon footprint, to a completely self-sufficient design with no need for energy import or export.

Casale’s proprietary processes and flow schemes are protected by multiple patents and patent applications worldwide, further reinforcing our leading position in technological innovation. We are particularly proud to announce that, after a thorough reexamination by the U.S. patent and trademark office, we have bolstered our portfolio with the inclusion of U.S. patent number 11,286,168 C1. This patent covers critical aspects of the HyPURE-N process and underscores our commitment to advancing sustainable industry practices.

Casale is excited to drive technological innovation with advanced solutions that are globally recognized and protected, affirming our commitment to a more sustainable future.
