Casale is proud to announce its appointment by ATOME as the exclusive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the development of a full-scale green nitrate fertilizer complex in Villeta, Paraguay. This groundbreaking facility will leverage 100% renewable energy to produce nitrate-based fertilizers, setting new benchmarks for sustainable agriculture and positioning Paraguay as a leader in renewable-driven industrial innovation.

The collaboration between Casale and ATOME began in 2022 with the award of a contract for the Basic Engineering Design of the project’s green ammonia synthesis loop. Initially focused on design, Casale’s scope of involvement has since expanded to include the licensing of all core technologies—ammonia synthesis, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate solution (ANS), and nitrate granulation—and, most recently, the comprehensive EPC services to bring the entire project to completion whose objective is to convert 145 MW of clean hydroelectric power generated thanks to the Itaipu dam on the Paraná River into green fertilizers.

Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale, commented:

Being appointed as the EPC contractor for the Villeta project is a significant milestone for Casale. With over a century of expertise and an unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and excellence, we don’t just dream of a greener planet; together with ATOME, we are actively shaping it.
This nomination underscores Casale’s position as a trusted partner, chosen not only for our advanced technologies but also for our ability to deliver comprehensive, turnkey solutions through our EPC capabilities. From the early stages of design to full-scale implementation, this project exemplifies our dedication to engineering excellence and sustainable progress.
As the first project of its kind, Villeta will set a new benchmark in green fertilizer production, driving sustainable development across Latin America. By creating local opportunities and fostering a resilient, low-carbon economy, we are proud to support ATOME’s vision and contribute to a greener future that addresses today’s needs while promoting long-term environmental responsibility."

Olivier Mussat, CEO of Atome, discusses about this milestone at the following link:

This landmark project demonstrates the potential of combining innovation, entrepreneurship, visionary leadership, and a solid engineering foundation with the highest standards in project execution. Casale is committed to transforming the production of essential chemicals and remains dedicated to driving sustainable development across the global chemical industry.
