As we embark on the journey to discover more environmentally responsible methods for producing essential base chemicals, renewable methanol derived from biomasses is gaining prominence as a feasible alternative to the conventional approach that relies on fossil fuels. Its distinct advantage lies in its capacity to significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, making it an attractive and sustainable option for meeting our chemical production needs.
E-methanol, also known as electro-methanol, is a remarkably low-carbon chemical produced by converting CO2 (biogenic or captured from other processes) with green hydrogen generated through water electrolysis powered exclusively by renewable electricity. Alongside bio-methanol, derived from biomass sources, the rapid advancement of technology is swiftly positioning these processes as environmentally friendly sources of such vital base chemical.
M-ELEVA is Casale process for traditional methanol plants, based on steam-methane reforming of natural gas. The process can be customized to meet specific Client’s needs as well as easily integrated in any downstream unit.
If any CO2 stream is available at battery limits it can be used as additional feedstock to boost the production.
The process is extremely flexible, and it may be adapted to meet specific market needs and/or customer requirements.
The process for methanol synthesis from coal gasification is quite different from the natural gas route.
In coal-based methanol plants the gasifier is third-party technology. With reference to the block flow diagram below, Casale is involved as process licensor in the sections highlighted in red: CO2 shift, synthesis loop and distillation.
